I am a German-born, grounded male practitioner who began his working life as a diesel fitter. During my time at work I enjoyed helping others, which prompted me to gain official recognition of my skills by attaining qualifications as a counsellor and mediator, and later as a psychologist. I gained experience while working for various government departments, both in WA and QLD. I established Re Mind Me as a new business in Northam in 2016. A purpose-built counselling room provides a fresh, clean and soothing environment with therapeutic resources. My work in forensic settings has given me the opportunity to sharpen my skills in working with people from various ethnic, cultural, religious, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds.
The most common approaches I use include Mindfulness, CBT, psycho-education, and ACT. However, as everyone is an individual, I also use or incorporate aspects of TFT, Schema Therapy, EMDR, Gestalt Therapy and others as appropriate. I see people as having within them huge potential that is being stifled by various internal and external factors. It is my aim to help individuals to access this potential and to manage those factors they have little or no control over. To explain why we sometimes do what we know to be unhelpful, I agree with the words of Viktor Frankl “An abnormal reaction to an abnormal situation is normal behaviour.”
